Opening of English Language Training

The Australia Awards in Mongolia English language training, funded by the Australian Government, and delivered by the Institute of Education and Training (IET) and National University of Mongolia (NUM) commenced on 16 September 2019. The training will assist 28 selected awardees to improve their English language proficiency to meet entry requirement into their selected Australian university courses. The launch was attended by Australia Awards in Mongolia (AAM) representatives, Australia Awards Scholars and teachers from IET, NUM and Australia Awards Alumni.
Dr Manaljav, Board of IET opened proceeding by congratulating the awardees for being selected and she stressed the importance of hard work and perseverance to get through this stage. Dr Otgontuya, Head of Foreign Language Center at NUM, in her opening remarks, also urged the awardees to do their best to improve their IELTS scores and take up the opportunity in Australia to study their Master’s degree. Mr Simon Fraser, Team Leader of Australia Awards in Mongolia congratulated the awardees at this exciting time and wished them every success in their studies. IET’s teaching team explained there would be two courses, depending on awardees levels of English proficiency. Those with lower IELTS/TOEFL scores less than 6.5 will be released from their workplaces to attend full-time 10 and 14-week courses, while those with higher scores will attend a 6-week Academic Preparation Program conducted jointly by IET, NUM and University of Newcastle. Program Coordinator, Ms. Sarah Johnston, reminded the awardees the importance for improvement in their IELTS scores so that everyone can successfully take up the scholarship and enrol for university in Australia.
AAM alumni Ms.Sarantuya, Education specialist at project funded by ADB and Ms.Nurjan Khavdsyelyem, English teacher at NUM congratulated the awardees on their success and shared their student experiences in Australia with everyone and thanked the Government of Australia for its continued support to young Mongolian professionals who are committed to contribute to Mongolia’s development after completing their studies in Australia.
