Women Empowerment Forum “More powerful, Together: Economic Empowerment”

The Women Economic Empowerment Forum was organized on March 6th, 2019 in commemoration of International Women’s Day under “More powerful – Together: Women’s Economic Empowerment” theme. The forum promoted women’s participation in economy, equal opportunities, and their right to participate and lead in the development process. The forum was jointly organized by Women’s Leadership Program and its’ “Women Economic Empowerment” Project with a support from Australian Embassy in Mongolia and Xacbank.

A total of 390 attendees representing women-owned micro, small and medium enterprises, Australia Awards Alumni, international development organizations, Mozzies, Embassies, business representatives, and financial organizations in Mongolia were present at the WE Forum.

Opening remarks were delivered by Ms Enkhbayar.T, Secretariat of National Committee on Gender Equality. The program kicked off with a presentation on “Why Women’s Participation in Economy and Business Sector Matter” by T. Undariya, advisor at MONFEMNET. The following panel discussion on “Obstacles facing women entrepreneurs in Mongolia and solutions to overcome the challenges” was participated by:

  • Ms A.Namuun, the founder, Husug Brand
  • Ms D.Enkhjargal, Board member, Oyu Tolgoi LLC
  • Ms O.Baigali, Head, IWFCI Mongolia and
  • Ms Tomoko Ibukoro, Director, Mihachi LLC

Prof B. Otgontugs from National University of Mongolia commenced the second part and presented on “The role of women leaders in the economic development”. The panel discussion on “Cooperation opportunities for female entrepreneurs in Mongolia” was held by:

  • HE Dave Vosen, Ambassador from Australia to Mongolia
  • Ms Beate Trankmann, Country Representative, UNDP
  • Mr Amartuvshin. G, CEO, XacBank
  • Ms Ulziibayar. B, CEO, Ard Capital LLC

The Forum provided the opportunity for Australia Awards Alumni and women entrepreneurs to meet and expand their networks with prominent leaders and experts from the sector and financial organizations. Participants were exposed to the opportunities provided by Australia Awards in Mongolia program and Australian Embassy contribution to the development of Mongolia especially in women owned business sector.

One of the participants from a current WLP community development project “Women Economic Empowerment” which includes 20 micro and small business owners, had an opportunity to display their products and sell some during the forum.
