After eight months of rigorous leadership and self-development training, twenty inspiring men and women graduated from Women’s Leadership Program (WLP) cohort 5. The graduation ceremony was held on Friday 10 May 2019 at the Bluefin Restaurant, with speeches and acknowledgments given by His Excellency Dave Vosen, Australia’s Ambassador to Mongolia, Mr. Simon Fraser, Acting Team Leader of Australia Awards in Mongolia and Ms. Tsolmon Bayaraa, CEO of Zorig Foundation.

Each year WLP produces four community development projects that contribute to addressing some of the most pressing social issues in Mongolia. The 2019 projects covered areas such as promoting positive wellbeing through the Healthy Community Club, advancing gender equality through the Women Economic Empowerment project that focused on mentoring early stage women-run SME’s, the creation of Mongolia’s first Autism Website that provides vital resources to parents and communities to support their journey of raising a child with autism, and Beyond Books, Mongolia’s first community library. The talented WLP participants impressed even themselves, with many noting how empowered they now felt to continue to be the agents of change within their own communities.

In addition to this, 10 outstanding participants were selected to travel to Brisbane, Australia in mid May to participate in an intensive two-week leadership and skills development program. The training targets participants’ individual needs to amplify their ability to collaborate, influence and become effective leaders. Participants are also linked up with leaders and organizations in Australia relevant to their experience, presenting opportunities for participants to compare and contrast the Australian experience with Mongolia and strengthen links between Mongolia and Australia.
