Celebrating Australia Awards’ impact in Mongolia in 2025

In 2025, Australia Awards continued to support Mongolia’s development priorities by equipping emerging leaders with skills, networks and leadership experience to drive meaningful change. The 2025 Year in Review highlights the impact of Australia Awards Scholarships, short-term training and alumni engagement in Mongolia.

Key highlights from 2025, as presented in the Year in Review, include:

  • Thirteen scholars (9 women and 4 men) completed their degrees in 2025 with the support of Australia Awards Scholarships and have now returned home as alumni to apply their learning in support of Mongolia’s development priorities.
  • Mongolian scholars participated in Indigenous engagement activities across Australia, learning about the history, culture, and achievements of Australia’s First Nations peoples.
  • Twenty future leaders from Mongolia received Scholarships for study commencing in 2026.
  • Australia Awards delivered the Women’s Leadership Program for its 11th cohort of 20 participants, building their capacity to be the next generation of Mongolian leaders.
  • Scholars, Short Course participants and alumni strengthened their capacity to respond to the challenge of climate change through targeted initiatives.
  • Six Mongolians were among 51 Australia Awards alumni from South Asia and Mongolia who participated in the 2025 Regional Alumni Workshop in Sri Lanka from 7–9 April, on the theme of ‘From inclusion to equity: Development for all’.

Reflecting on her Australia Awards experience, Mongolian alumna Munkhzul Erdenedagva, who completed a Master of International Development Practice at Monash University in 2024, said, “My experience as an Australia Awards scholar shaped how I see sustainable development as something deeply human, grounded in mental health, wellbeing and compassionate leadership.”
