Returning alumni warmly greeted with a welcome back ceremony

Posted: 11 June 2025

A Warm Welcome Back to Our Australia Awards Alumni!
On 30 May 2025, we held a meaningful Welcome Back Event for the recently returned Australia Awards Alumni in partnership with the Australian Embassy in Mongolia.
We were honoured to have distinguished guests in attendance, including Mr. Leo Zeng, Australian Ambassador to Mongolia; Mr. U. Byambasuren, PCC Co-chair, Vice Chief, Cabinet Secretariat of Mongolia; Mr. Andrew Barryman, Deputy Head of Mission, Australian Embassy in Mongolia; and Mr. Tony Crooks, AASAM Team Leader; and many other esteemed supporters of Australian alumni in Mongolia.
Together, we planted trees, making a symbolic and tangible contribution to a greener future for Ulaanbaatar and taking a hopeful first step towards realising the vision of the Mozzies Garden.
During the event, our valued partners – including the Mozzies Association (Mongolia Australia Society), AustCham Mongolia, and the Zorig Foundation – provided insightful presentations about their programs. They showcased various initiatives aimed at empowering Australian alumni to play active roles in Mongolia’s development.
In his opening remarks, Mr. U. Byambasuren extended heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to all returning alumni, encouraging them to continue striving for excellence and making a meaningful impact in their careers and communities.
Mr. Tony Crooks delivered a powerful message: “Receiving the scholarship and studying in Australia is just the beginning – it’s preparation for this very moment.” He emphasised the dual objectives of the Australia Awards:
1. To equip scholars to return and contribute to Mongolia’s progress.
2. To strengthen the enduring people-to-people links between Australia and Mongolia.
He also reminded the alumni that they now have a lifelong connection with Australia, based on shared values, commitment, and community development.
This event was not just a celebration but also a moment for reflection – a time for our alumni to realign their goals, integration plans, and personal aspirations for building a brighter, more inclusive future for Mongolia.
Welcome home, graduates. We are proud of you. The journey continues.
