Reintegration workshop 2016 was conducted on 6 April at the Australia Awards Mongolia conference room and attended by 18 alumni.

The workshop was opened by Zoljargal. N, Development Officer from the Australian Embassy in Mongolia. She congratulated the alumni on their achievement s in successfully completing their studies in Australia. She emphasized the importance of reintegration plans and implementing them in ways that acknowledge and recognize Australia’s contribution to Mongolia’s development. She explained that Australia Awards Scholarships will continue, despite current challenges and temporary reduced budget allocation to Mongolia.

The workshop included 2 sessions:

  • Reflections on living and studying in Australia.

This session of structured interactive discussions was facilitated by Geoff Lacey, M&E adviser on the Australia Awards Mongolia (AAM) program.

  • Open discussion on developing and implementing Reintegration Plans

Enkhtuvshin Lunden, HRD and Partnership Manager on AAM facilitated this session and it provided opportunities for alumni to openly explain achievements and challenges in developing and implementing their Reintegration Plans.

Of the 18 participants, 17 responded to a ‘Preparedness’ survey and most confirmed they were well-prepared for their time in Australia. Most respondents found the most challenging part of living in Australia was academic study.

Some alumni are implementing their Reintegration Plans through professional networks and affiliations, promoting their profession and improving public awareness. Others are implementing their proposed activities ‘on the job’, even if their positions have changed.

Most alumni found that not only academic skills obtained during Australia Awards Scholarship but also social and soft skills are useful in their career development in Mongolia.
